About Cellulite
Cellulite is a skin condition characterized by a dimpled appearance on various areas of the body, most commonly on the thighs, buttocks, and hips. (1) This condition occurs in 80% to 90% of women (1), but less than 10% of men develop it. (2) There are many contributing factors to this condition, including genetics, weight fluctuations, pregnancy, oral contraceptive use, hormone replacement therapy, and more. (3)
How Cellulite Develops in the Body
There are five layers of tissue beneath the skin in the gluteal region, where cellulite commonly develops. These include:
- Dermis – The inner layer of the skin (beneath the epidermis) Superficial Fat
- Superficial Fascia – Thin connective tissue
- Deep Fat
- Deep Fascia – Thicker connective tissue near the muscle
Each of these layers is held together by fibrous bands of tissue called septa. There are shorter septa that connect the superficial fascia to the dermis, as well as longer septa that connect the deep fascia to the dermis. Both the superficial layers and deep layers of your tissue can expand and start pulling both inward and outward. The fibrous septae start pulling inward on the skin while fat pushes outward; however, the short septa cannot contain the superficial fat, and the longer septa stay attached. This creates the dimpled and indented appearance associated with cellulite. (1)

You may be a suitable candidate for our cellulite reduction treatment if you are experiencing dimpling or indentations around your body, particularly on the hips, buttocks, or thighs. If you are currently undergoing a weight loss journey and are near your ideal weight, and are seeking an effective solution for your cellulite, you may also benefit from this treatment.
All candidates interested in Cellulaze should be in good general health, with realistic expectations regarding the outcome of the treatment. This treatment is not recommended for those with loose or hanging skin, substantial amounts of fat in the treatment area, or pregnant and breastfeeding women. If you do not qualify for this procedure, you are still encouraged to reach out so that our team may recommend a suitable alternative. Our patient coordinators will determine each patient’s candidacy for Cellulaze during their consultation.
Personal Consultation
Because each cellulite reduction treatment is tailored to your needs and anatomy, we ask that you attend a personal consultation at our Denver office. During this consultation, our patient coordinators will meet you to discuss what Cellulaze is and what it consists of. They will ask you about your medical history, areas of concern, and desired results. A medical examination will also be performed to evaluate the condition of the treatment area. The information gathered throughout the consultation will be used to determine whether Cellulaze is right for you and develop your treatment plan.
To schedule this consultation and receive your personalized treatment plan, we encourage you to fill out our online contact form or call our office at (303)708-8770.
Preparation
When preparing for your cellulite reduction treatment, there are several steps you may need to take to facilitate the most optimal outcomes. You will be asked to undergo lab testing beforehand to ensure you do not possess any underlying medical conditions that may affect your recovery or results. You will also need to discontinue taking any blood-thinning medications or supplements. Any further preparation instructions will be provided to you during your pre-operative appointment.
Cellulaze Procedure
When you arrive at our Denver office for your cellulite reduction treatment, you will be led to a private treatment room where your skin will be cleansed. A local anesthetic will be administered to the treatment area to enhance your comfort. Your surgeon will make several small incisions near the treatment area. They will then insert a thin laser fiber. The laser fiber emits laser energy in several directions, offering a multi-targeted approach to help effectively reduce your cellulite. The fiber emits a downward-facing beam to help liquefy fat, a sideways-facing beam to help release the fibrous septae, and an upward-facing beam to help stimulate the production of collagen. (4)
The duration of this treatment can vary depending on the size of the treatment area, as well as the severity of the cellulite present, but this treatment takes approximately 1-1.5 hours to perform.
Recovery
After your treatment, you may experience some mild tenderness or bruising in the treated areas. These effects are temporary and typically subside within several days. You will be able to return to work and your other regular activities within about a week, though strenuous activities and exercise should be avoided until your surgeon approves. Any scarring from the treatment is discreet, in easy-to-conceal locations, and can be expected to fade over time. Detailed instructions will be provided to you by our medical team.
Results
After the treatment area has healed, you will be able to experience smoother, more even skin as any dimpling or indentations are softened. Over time, as new collagen is produced, you will also be able to see the treatment area become healthier-looking and toned as your skin becomes firmer and thicker. When paired with healthy lifestyle habits, the results of your treatment can last for several years to come.
