Liposuction vs. Tummy Tuck

Liposuction is a precise body contouring surgery to sculpt your form by removing unflattering fat from the areas where it clings most stubbornly. A tummy tuck (also known as abdominoplasty) is performed to remove and remodel excess skin to create a taut, toned surface across your smooth silhouette. We will compare these two procedures in an attempt to elucidate their respective strengths. We will explain the situations in which one may be more appropriate than the other. Frequently, liposuction and abdominoplasty procedures are employed together.

At the Advanced Body Sculpting Institute, we’ve mastered the science of body contouring. Check out the ABS Institute blog for advanced insights in body sculpting.

Liposuction vs. Tummy Tuck!

We only appear to be pitting them against one another for the sake of drama—it makes for a more interesting blog. In fact, both procedures are fantastic for flattening your abdomen, balancing your body’s symmetry and tightening up your torso. But these two procedures go about achieving their results differently. Liposuction slurps up stubborn fat bulges. A tummy tuck is an excisional surgery used to trim away saggy skin and to tie-up loose and damaged muscle in midsection.

We are the ABS Institute of Denver, Colorado. We proudly bring you the best and most affordable body contouring services in the Rocky Mountain region. At your free consultation, you’ll learn which of our transformative procedures is right for you.

Learn About Liposuction

Sometimes stubborn bundles of fat are doggedly resistant to healthy lifestyle choices, like a nutritious diet and regular exercise. In these troublesome circumstances, liposuction can help. The liposuction procedure involves minimal incisions in the target area. Only a few skillful scalpel slits are all that is necessary to grant access to one of our ABS Institute surgeon’s uncanny cannulas.[1] A cannula is a long, hollow metal tube that probes the excess adipose tissue and removes bothersome fat bulges on gentle jets of suction.

The ABS Institute is a regional leader in liposuction techniques and body sculpting technology. Our liposuction surgery is minimally invasive. Often, our patients remain awake for the safe and simple procedure. ABS Institute advocates for a local anesthetic and twilight sedation, when it is appropriate for the patient. We’ve streamlined the liposuction procedure to such a degree that general anesthesia is frequently unnecessary.

What is VASER Liposuction?

ABS Institute is among Colorado’s finest practitioners of VASER Liposuction. VASER is an acronym for vibration amplification of sound energy at resonance. The technique employs a smooth, high-frequency vibration to the target area. The resonant sound energy breaks up bunches of fat globules that would be otherwise difficult to remove. The fat that’s been emulsified by VASER is a smooth slurry, allowing for a more precise procedure. With VASER, we can sculpt your body in exacting detail to reveal your most attractive cuts and curves.

Tummy Tuck Truths

Abdominoplasty is a more involved procedure than liposuction. It restructures the form and shape of the skin and muscle at your midsection. A tummy tuck can gently tug your abdomen into the coveted feminine hourglass shape or pull your masculine torso into an ascendant “V” arrangement.[2] Such transcendent transformation simply isn’t possible with liposuction alone. It also tightens abdominal muscles and can greatly reduce a bulging belly or damaged diastasis recti. Only a tummy tuck has what it takes to sculpt your silhouette into the shape you desire.

Qualified Candidates

Liposuction and tummy tuck often draw from the same pool of qualified candidates. The ideal patient for either procedure has achieved a healthy, stable weight so that they can be eligible for surgery.[3] Whether someone is better suited for either procedure (or both) comes down to a question of degree. Liposuction has a lighter impact and achieves its slimming outcomes with shorter recovery times.

Abdominoplasty accomplishes a more thorough remodeling of the fat, skin and muscle at the tummy. As a tailor nips and trims a fine suit of clothing for the perfect fit, so too does abdominoplasty aim to achieve a smooth and appealing form throughout your body’s architecture.[4] Many post-bariatric patients are often interested in what abdominoplasty has to offer. In these cases, severely lax and overstretched skin will enshroud a person’s healthy contours unflattering billows of deflated fat and flesh. These situations can be too much for liposuction to handle all by its lonesome. The benefits of liposuction are regularly performed in tandem for a sweeping upgrade to a patient’s appearance.

Body Contouring Recovery Times

Liposuction and tummy tuck’s respective recovery times are a significant difference between the two procedures. Many of our liposuction patients are able to leave ABS Institute on their own two feet (though they must be wheeled out as an extra safety precaution). Their comparatively shorter recovery may only last one or two weeks.

A tummy tuck can accomplish many things that liposuction cannot. More than just simply shaping fat, abdominoplasty shapes and molds skin and muscle, as well, for a flat and trim midsection. Since the procedure involves removing skin and redraping it across your abdomen’s underlying architecture, recovery from a tummy tuck can take much longer. Patients can expect two weeks of downtime.

FAQ

What costs more liposuction or tummy tuck?

As a less intensive surgery, liposuction is more modestly priced than our tummy tuck procedure. We price plastic surgery based on how involved the operation is expected to be.

– Liposuction – $3000 per area, 2nd area is 25% off, and 3rd area is 50% off
– Tummy Tucks – Start at around $14000
+ $1275 facility fee

Do you need lipo with a tummy tuck?

It isn’t necessary to get liposuction with your tummy tuck, but the two surgeries are often paired together because their results complement each other. It isn’t at all uncommon for a patient to be plagued by both excessively loose skin and stubborn pockets of subcutaneous fat. In these cases, your plastic surgeon may perform liposuction near the end of the abdominoplasty, before the incisions are closed. This will ensure a smooth and slim result at the surgery’s end.

Will liposuction flatten my stomach?

Liposuction is quite effective at flattening and toning the abdomen, especially if an otherwise lean and muscular frame lies beneath the troublesome extra fat. In more severe cases involving skin that has been excessively stretched during radical weight fluctuations or perhaps during pregnancy, a more involved operation, like a tummy tuck, may be unavoidable. An Abdominoplasty is a body contouring surgery that focuses on the stomach (as its name implies). During a tummy tuck, fat and skin are removed from the belly area. Frequently the stomach muscles are tightened and repaired, too, creating a nice, flat tummy when you recover. The most transformative results occur when these two procedures team up to achieve comprehensive contouring. Lax and sagging skin is made all the more unsightly when its folds and rolls are augmented by pockets of subcutaneous fat. A combination of tummy tuck and liposuction surgery is the most effective way of dealing with this.
